My map mismatches or crashes online, why? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
Often skirmish maps contain a .ini file, a type of mod, mods do not play well online and often mismatch or crash, sometimes certain extra custom scripts can cause "probleums" with multiplay games, pretty much any script that refers to 'Local Player' and some scripts that alter command buttons will all crash or mismatch. There are so many different custom scripts that will screw up a multiplay match, too many to list here.you can check the readme and see if there are any known bugs,If you have a probleum with a map you can do a quick fix to play it online by deleteing the .ini file the map contains. If it still crashes or mismatches then its a custom script, if there is no custom scripts in the map then one of the players may have a mod installed, If you mismatch often you might want to go to control panel, uninstall, then select the repair install option, not the uninstall option, you will need to have your disk in the drive ahead of time when you do this.Over time the files in your generals directory may of been damaged this may fix alot of things.Mismatch sometimes just happens as well cause Generals has piss poor net code, that was never truely put through Quality Control.Mismatch and online play probleums can also be affected by firewalls and even antivirus and anti-spyware programs on.

How can I upload a map? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
If you have created a map all the related files are stored in a folder with the maps name. Make a compressed archiv (.zip or .rar) out of that folder.  This can be done by using a program like Winzip or Winrar. If you don’t have one you can download it right here Download 7ip "It's Free :)" . Add a read me.file with the basic information about your map. then visit this link How To Post. After you post following that How to post tutorial, your map post will be visible to staff and we will check your posted map/file and hit the approve file button that will send your map to the downloads and to the home page.

4.
How can I install a downloaded map? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
The map will be in a folder inside of the compressed zip file. Download the zip and store it somewhere like in ‘MyDocuments’ or the desktop. Extract the zip file, somewhere you can find it easily like your desktop. Open up ‘MyDocuments’, open up ‘Command & Conquer Generals Data’. Choose the Folder Called Maps. If the folder doesn’t exist you never played a skirmish match yet. Play one of the official maps that came with the game and  the folder will be created.  All you have to do is drag the folder you extracted to the maps folder. Be sure to drag the whole folder with all it’s contents. Don’t take some of the files you have got out of it. When you try to play your skirmish match this map will be listed under unofficial Maps. The same procedure should be used for a Zero Hour Map except the folder in ‘MyDocuments’ is called ‘Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data’. If there is a txt or doc file in the extracted folder you can read it to get some information about the map and the author.

5.
How can I review Sounds in Generals or Zero Hour? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
In the scripts of the WorldBuilder you'll find a section 'Multimedia'. There you can install sounds or speeches into your map. If you choose one of the sounds a window opens that shows a button 'Preview Sound'. This button is not operational because the WorldBuilder is Beta-Software and has never been finished by EA. If you want to preview sounds or speeches you must use TOWtools and open one of the music or speech big.files. Choose one of the wav or mp3 files and you can review the content. If you would like to hear the sounds you have installed in your map it's the simplest way to activate the View-option 'Show Sound Flags' and 'Show Sound Circles'. Save your entire version and try to play it. Use a vehicle to drive around the map. This will give you an impression how the sounds fit into the map and if there is a need to modify it. This can easily be done by moving the soundflags in WorldBuilder.

6.
What is a STR file? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
If you want to make an intro for you map with the Map name and the Map author or you want to send some messages while the game is running you have to use the briefing command in your script. The script needs a ‘string’ to show the message. This is the Name of the message you like to show. This name and the text of the message goes into a file with the expansion ‘.str’. For every message you want to show set up another name, the message and the line ‘end’.

7.
Why is the map not shown under ‘Unofficial maps’ in the game? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
The map.file is missing in the mapfolder
The name of the mapfolder is different to the name of the map.file
You have stored to many maps in your Data folder. Basicly the game shows 99 unofficial maps. If you have patch 1.04 of Zero Hour installed it will show at a maximum 256 maps. The order the map are listed is: Single-player, 2-player, and so on up to 8-player. If you have more than the maximum the last maps won’t be in the list. Just delete some of the played maps or store them in another folder and you can see the new one’s.

8.
How can I learn to create maps? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
To create a map you have to learn how to use the Worldbuilder. This program comes with your game. Don’t mix it up. You need the GeneralWorldbuilder to create maps for the original Generals and the ZHWorldbuilder to create maps for Zero Hour.
To learn more about the program you can start with our video tutorials here on cncmaps. They will guide you through the mapmaking process. If you want to learn more it is necessary to read the Official Worldbuilder Tutorial. You can download it here on cncmaps under the topic ‘Utility/OtherFiles’.
But the most important thing is learning by doing. It’s a process of trial and error and everybody has to go through this.

How do i install a Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars map? (Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars) top
There are 4 good ways to find your CnC3 map folder. 1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOURPROFILENAMEHERE\Application Data\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Maps - where i have typed YOURPROFILENAMEHERE you would of course use the profile name you use on your computer for example mine is thomasalan 2. Open CnC3 worldbuilder and save a map with a unique name, then do a search for this unique name. 3. go to run then type: %USERPROFILE%\Application Data this last method may not work in some language versions of windows. 4. cncgeneralsworld.com has released a new program to manage your maps. cncgeneralsworld.com's Description: "C&C 3 Map Manager streamlines the process of installing custom maps for C&C 3: Tiberium Wars. Now you can install fan maps from C&C fansites without having to delve into your computer's folders to find the right place to put them: Map Manager handles this for you. (Download Map Manager "It's Free :)"). Vista users: Extract contents of the .zip file to the C:\Users\[USER LOGIN NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Maps\TiberiumWars\ folder. or use the Generals World Map Manager program mentioned above it does a fine job managing your maps.

Only if you are a registered member of cncmaps you can open the ‘Forums’. There we have a topic MapSupport. Make a request for your special problem. Try to describe all of the specific details so we can see exactly what kind of problem you have. Ask just one question in a request not a bunch. So it will be easier to answer and it maybe a better help for the next member with the same question.
Map Support shouldn’t be a place where we give lessons in mapmaking. For simple questions you should look into the Video Tutorials, the Worldbuilder Tutorial or the FAQ’s.

What is an INI file? (Generals Zero:Hour) top
If you want to make some basic changes in your map for the whole game you have to create a file with the expansion .ini in your mapfolder. To create it you can use the notepad or wordpad or editor of windows. Don’t forget to change the expansion to ‘.ini’ after you  have saved the file.
Into this file goes everthing you want to change like simple weapon mods, weather conditions, color mods and so on. There are special demands how an ini.file should look. For a lot of modifications we have listed the examples in our Forums topic ‘.ini Editing’. There you can get all the information how to create an ini file. If you run into a special problem with an ini describe the problem under ‘Map Support’.
