Beng's Laser Demo Nuke Mod verion 3.02


New in version 3.02: Super rocket artillery units for the 3 generals. These need the use of a Generals point to purchase the science, plus an advanced tech building. They are also available in the singleplayer campaigns.

Laser gets M270 MLRS


Demo gets PHL96 Smerch MLRS


Nuke gets Silkworm cruise missile launcher


This is a new version of Beng's Laser Demo Nuke mod for Zero Hour, that modifies the Laser, Demo and Nuke generals to have many improved units and powers. Nearly every object belonging to these 3 generals has been changed and they have new buildings, units, and powers. It is intended mainly to add replay value to the single player campaigns, general's challenge campaigns, and skirmish games. Vanilla America, GLA and China objects can change into the new Laser, Demo and Nuke types so you can use them in the single player campaigns.

Try the single player campaigns and Generals Challenge. Single player campaigns include all the missions from Generals, including Training mission (at start of USA campaign) and a modified version of the missing GLA mission 3 by DeeZire. A new map has been added to the end of
USA single player campaign.

New things in version 3 include: Improved SkirmishAI for Laser General by n5p29. Better
S-200 / SA-5 SAM site for Nuke General, superweapon decoying tactics for playing against AI players – can make them shoot their own base, versatile EA-6B plane for Laser general, JXX stealth fighter for Nuke General, seduction chaff that distracts the enemy defences, mortar mines for Laser mortar man, CIA agent armed with MK-ULTRA mind control darts - can hijack enemy heroes and infantry, Valmara-69 mine for Demo Jarmen, fake nuke silo firing chaff dispensing missiles for Nuke general, spy satellite scan now uses a spy satellite and scans a wider area, supply prison for Laser General. Various other tweaks and improvements.

If you have
7-zip, which is freeware, you can download a smaller zip file in this forum message that was compressed using LZMA compression (making it 9.5 MB instead of 12.2 MB).

Manual Install Instructions for Mac Users

Here's how to manually install:

Put the biggest file, 0BengsLDNmod3.off, in your ZH install directory. You do not need the .bat batch files.

Rename it from 0BengsLDNmod3.off to 0BengsLDNmod3.big

To enable the improved skirmish AI for this mod, rename
[ZH directory]\Data\Scripts\SkirmimishScripts.scb to SkirmimishScripts.off or something else so the computer will use the copy inside the big file instead of the existing one.

Then when you run the game it will use the mod.

To Uninstall: do the reverse of the above.

Compared to the last beta, the final release adds a spy satellite vehicle for the American spy satellite scans, that scans a larger area. Also tweaked particle effects for small fire fields (inferno canon etc), and made some adjustments to Nuke and Boss challenge maps. The nuke supply truck infantry upgrade is now cheaper, to match the cost of buying infantry from the barracks.

Also, note that Chinese spy outpost buildings can spy out the map if you garrison them. There is one on the hill north of your base in the Nuke challenge map for example.

Also, play through the America campaign, i added a mission map to the end in which you have a hard fight with Demo general. You have to capture a unmanned dozer to be able to build buildings. Suggestion: build lots of EA-6B planes and use them to drop chaff in front of the tomahawk storm missiles when they are launched at you (they will take some time to fly to your base as themap is very long), the chaff can jam the missiles. You can also put the planes in guard against flying units mode to shoot down incoming tomahawk missiles and carpet bombers. Build some Auroras and use them to take out enemy base defence buildings after the EA-6B's have jammed them with their Harm missiles.

If n5p29 does an updated skirmish AI for the demo and nuke generals, that will be added in a new version. Also for a new version in future: I haven't done the Demo general challenge map yet.

I don't think there are major bugs, but the game very occasionally crashes to desktop, if so just restart it. When it exits, either normally or because of some error, wait for the black batch file window to close by itself so that it finishes housekeeping: renaming the mod files so you can run the game normally without the mod. If for some reason the computer crashes completely so the batch file does not run, don't worry, just run the game again using the batch file and when you next exit the game it will clean up.

Also, in the Generals challenge, sometimes the laser general map will become super laggy, the frame rate will drop so slow you have to eait a few seconds for the next frame. I don't know what causes this but suspect a script problem. If this happens, press Esc and restart the mission and hopefully it will not get stuck again.

One of the fun things with version 3 is the decoying of computer player's superweapons: they often have scripts that fire them at your highest cost area, but by dropping chaff, or planting hero mines / mortar mines, these have a very high cost and can fool the computer player to shooting superweapons at them. Also, dropping chaff in the enemy's base can result in him damaging his own buildings by shooting wildly.

Challenge maps that you can use superweapon spoofing tactics:

Stealth General - he fires his scud storm at your highest cost area.

Toxin General - fires his Anthrax bomb at your highest cost area, his scud always targets your command center, but you can shoot down the missiles.

Superweapon General - she fires her A10 strike at your highest cost area, use mines to decoy it. Her particle beams target your nearest barracks and power plant (or for GLA your nearest barracks, arms dealer, and black market) - decoy those by building scafollding closer to her particle beams and cancelling them when she starts to use them.

Laser General - when you have destroyed a particle beam, he will start using A10 strikes at your highest cost area.

Nuke General - his carpet bomber fires at your highest cost area, just keep chaffing all over the place to keep that, and his mig attacks, away from your base.

Tank General - fires his nuke at your highest cost area.

Boss - don't capture those lab buildings that reset the timer, let her fire all 3 weapons, but drop chaff in her base a few seconds before that and watch what happens. Only capture the buildings to use them (for their special powers), after she has used her superweapons.

Yes i modelled most of the new units. But some are modified from existing models, like the spy satellite from the one in the game.

There's an EA-6B, all we need is a F-35 to be a replacement for the laser raptor/X-44 and add stealth, and a possible replacement for the Comanche, or as a new VTOL aircraft, stealth bomber, and even a carrier aircraft replacement, or 1/2 EA-6B, and 1/2 F-35. An Mi-26 Halo for GLA as a transport, and a Mi-24 Hind as a gunship/light troop transport. Oh, and replace the Tomahawk ALCM's with AGM-129 stealth nuke cruise missiles as an upgrade, making them much more powerful, stealthed, and nuclear. The demo general should have MiG-29's, as their multi-purpose fighter, taking out buildings with bombs, and destroying aircraft with air to air missiles, along with destroying tanks and infantry with a GSh-30-1 cannon, and with S-24 rockets and jamming missiles with ECM, and flares, along with the SU-25 playing the role of an A-10 for the demo general.

pinned this for a few days to put in on homepage again since it was updated.

Beng next time you edit this topic use this text as your source, the forum seems to like to put br tags in and then it doesn't convert well when it puts it on the home page. showing the tag br instead of a line break. instead of using the br tag we have to leave a empty line.
