Zero Hour has many unused W3D models which can be used for mods. You can also use modles from Generals like the American prison. Here is a thread to discuss them.

Before extracting a model from the BIG file, check it's file size in XCC mixer or whatever you use to open BIG files. If it is small, like 2099 or 4811, don't bother because it is probably just a standard place holder model of a box. The only things that small in size are like walls and other things which are also just boxes.

In Zh there is also a GLA prison, UBPrison, and GLA and China POW trucks.

In the naming convention,
U = GLA
A = America
N = China
B = Building
I = Infantry
V = Vehicle

so NIFOOTMAN means China infantry footman
UVPOWtruck = GLA Vehicle POW truck
NVPowtuck = China one etc

There is ABGDCTower, a small but tall tower with moving dishes on the top

ABDetcamp which is a prison like building

NIFootman has good animations but no skin texture, it is also smaller than other infantry and lacks a PickBox, making it hard to select.

UBPwrPlant has different shaped models at night, the day one is a windmill, the night one has a piston

UBPrison has cameos to match

UBArFrcCmd is a GLA air force command, or airfield, but it lacks airfield bones so you will have to get those from a china or america airfield model.

There is a Nuke tank hunter, NiNukeHnt, which uses missile defender animations

There is also a Nuke Helix that Nuke General did not use.

There are unused aircraft carrier models, one of which has an animation of planes taking off and landing. And another has a sinking animation where the superstructure falls off.

There are also the unused tech buildings:
ZBTechCave - the tech cave
ZBRadioStn - tech radio station

They have their own cameo images too, like the POW trucks and GLA prison.

And America has the skidoo ranger (AIranger_S i think), brown tank (avleopard or avcrusader or avpredator, i forgot which), and brown jet fighter (avraptor_alt), repair drone, and guardian drone.

AISeal has no skeleton bones

Ther is a 2 man missile team (AIMissleTm) and a one man one (AISTNG) which has usable animations - i used him for a mortar man in some of my mods.

Superweapon's general's solo drone AVsolodrn

There are unused Nuke Helix, Air force general aurora, supw ambulance models

UVScorpion is an unused GLA vehicle shaped like an M-113 with a vertical scoprion rocket on the back and 2 guns in a turret to the front.

Here's a good sized list of unused stuff I have found in ZH. I dont think I've gotten all of it though. It looks like some of generals was going to be completely different based on some of the models and skins.




AOM = roman stlye structure
CbBypasBoy = knock-off mcdonalds building
CBGrvlMvr = brown gravel crane
CBTUSABldng01 = A Soviet building skinned with a large American flag and a stage with a podium out front
CBUSAPltfm = podium/stage section only
gxmammoth_a = smallish mammoth tank with no skins
gxmammoth_HI = another mammoth model

Some of the models with no skins can be skinned by finding out the name of the skin texture they use, then copying an existing texture file to that name.

To find out what texture they use, open the model in Renegade tools W3D model viewer and in the tree on the left there is a texture thing that shows you what textures they use.

AVRepairDr model fixed

Here is a fixed version of the AVRepairDr model, where the wheels used to rotate on the wrong axis. The pivots are now fixed. Included is example ini code, you could use it for a dozer.

I think these are used for the ending cut scene for the USA campaign where the game over sign obscures the american flag just as the camera zooms up to it.

This would make a nice red guard.

There are lots of similar models by different names, i think they were temporary models.

model names ending in G are for specific generals, N for nuke, so NG is Nuke General. This should be the skin his helix uses, but i think it uses the normal helix skin. Same with a lot of other models- EA did not use them, i think they were in a hurry with the code, it shows.

> NVMBuggy = Rocket Buggy with nice green military skins

Maybe the Boss generals buggy shoud use this since NV means a China vehicle.

> NVPredator = Origonal Preditor tank with green skins like the buggy

Another tank intended for China.

Another chinese thing.

Cameos are available. There are also 3 POW trucks to go with the prisons, but China has no prison model that i could discoverm though there is that ABDetCamp thing which is an American something.

Should be the new GLA leader who escapes in GLA mission 1 in the limo chased by humvees.

There is also a Ranger version AIRngr_S or something.

Lots of these models, they are temp models, place holders.

This should have been the real scorpion. Instead they used the lite tank for the scorpion. The scorpion rocket in the game is the one for the APC, it is twice the size of the tank rockets. There is a different model for the tank rocket called UVLiteTank_M or something similar.

Airforce General was supposed to use this skin. Also he was supposed to have a massively powerful fuel air aurora bomb that is much more powerful than superweapon general's one. It would haveoften blown itself up though, like superweapon general's auroras in early ZH versions.

AVRaptor_Alt is the brown plane which you see as laser general's raptor in my mod.

If you use the GLA airfield model note that when you make the runway and parking bones (copy these from an American airfield model) the bones are used as waypoints by taxiing planes. Therefore each bone must be rotated to face the next bone that the plane needs to move to, otherwise the planes will get stuck and be unable to take off. To rotate them in Gmax, use the third tab in the right hand pane, and click Affect Pivots Only, then click each bone individually and rotate it's pivot to the right direction.

Here is an EA-6B Prowler model that i made on request for someone else. It has retractable landing gear like the Su-25 in my Laser Demo Nuke mod, plus folding wings. It also has visible external stores (jamming pods and HARM missiles). Also included are models for HARM missiles and GBU-24 laser guided bombs for a B-52 air strike power that it gets with Heroic veterancy.

It is in a BIG file mod which adds it to air force general (needs his strategy center). It has lots of upgrades in the mod. Below are some screen shots of the EA-6B parked at an airfield, and as an aircraft carrier raptor replacement (from the ZH USA mission 2 cut scene).



Above is a screen shot of parked aircraft, with different pods loaded. The red pods are ECM and jam missiles and give the plane stealth. The green pods are stealth detectors. Both can be loaded because the plane uses GarrisonContain, not OverlordContain (or HelixContain) which only allow 1 portable structure to be seen. Since the plane will never go inside a tunnel network, this is fine.

Here is how it works as a carrier plane. The parked planes have wings folded. The ones going to take off are unfolding their wings. These pics are from the cut scene at the start of USA mission 2 in ZH:



And here 2 have just ben launched, the smoke is the "ConditionState = JETEXHAUST JETAFTERBURNER" particle effects.



And here the smoke has finished, the landing gear is starting to be retracted. Notice the folded wings of the planes on deck.



After a strike on some GLA vehicles in Somalia, these 2 prowlers are returning to the carrier. The rest on the deck have their wings folded.



And here they have landed and are taxiing to their parking bones.

I'm trying to make a bone for GLA Airfield. like this:



I've got it working, but when 4 planes taking off:
1. they go to parking/preparation bone
1. the first plane take off successfully (okay)
2. the second plane follows the first one (okay)
3. the rest of the plane suddenly VTOL-ing and not use the proper runway!

Is there a way to make sure the plane go to their preparation bone when the last aircraft already taking off?
